The menu at Vine Street Café is a treasure trove for adventurous palates. Start with the crispy duck confit, where perfectly rendered skin gives way to tender, melting meat infused with rich, savory depth. The tuna tacos present a playful twist—spicy tuna tartare wrapped delicately in a soft taco shell, offering a fresh burst of the ocean with every bite. For hearty appetites, the skirt steak shines with its beautifully harmonized spices and an impeccably juicy texture. Seafood lovers should not miss the miso-glazed salmon, a dish where the sweet umami glaze elegantly balances the fresh, flaky fish.
Complement your meal with a variety of plates that speak to seasonal freshness and bold flavor profiles: the crispy calamari salad combines a satisfying crunch with a refreshing mix of greens, while the lobster bouillabaisse offers a luxurious, aromatic broth brimming with ocean treasures. For a shared start or a light indulgence, the half dozen oysters on the half shell deliver pure, briny brightness straight from the sea.

Dining at Vine Street Café is more than just food—it is an experience heightened by a thoughtfully curated drink menu. From distinguished single malt whiskies like Oban 14yr and Macallan 12yr to an impressive array of fine brandies including Pierre Ferrand Cognac and Hennessey X.O., aficionados will find a refined companion to their meal. The digestif selection featuring Italian amari and Italian limoncello offers a sophisticated closure, lingering pleasantly on the palate.
Guests often praise the restaurant’s warm yet polished service, where staff skillfully guide diners through the diverse offerings with a genuine smile and knowledgeable recommendations. The ambiance strikes a comfortable balance—lively without overwhelming, perfect for both intimate dinners and festive outings.
Customer testimonials echo the exceptional quality and unique flavor combinations that Vine Street Café brings to Shelter Island. Whether you’re savoring the homemade fries alongside a perfectly cooked pastrami ribs or enjoying a rich glass of Malbec with your skirt steak, Vine Street Café captivates with bold, balanced flavors and an inviting atmosphere that will surely make you want to return.
Very, very good. The gluten free scallop dish was amazing. Prawns over asparagus were terrific. Tuna tacos were unique. The $24 glass of Bordeaux was a poor value, but that was my choice. A great restaurant.
Great food and friendly yet very professional service. Tuna taco, duck and stake were all excellent. I loved the homemade fries too. Worth the travel and $$$
Five stars overall. Extremely high rating for the food Good rating for the service Extremely low rating for the obnoxious people sitting next to us. But likely they won’t be there when you go! We really enjoyed the skirt steak and the duck. Both have a beautifully blended array of unique flavors and perfect texture. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, but she was clearly waiting on an unmanageable number of tables. When we’re next on Shelter Island, this will be high on our list.
The food is delicious…….BUT… their kitchen can’t handle the number of customers they pack into the restaurant with their expanded backyard!! Our meal took more than an hour and a half to arrive at the table which is unacceptable! It was also obvious that their bathrooms needed a good cleaning.
The best place in shelter island. The place is wonderful. The food is more than amazing. The chef is one of the best we had. The commitment and the customer satisfaction are priority. This place is a hidden gem in long island.

The food is clearly made with top-tier ingredients. We loved the relaxed yet refined vibe - perfect for a special dinner that still feels comfortable and unpretentious. Whether you're a Shelter Island regular or visiting for the weekend, Vine Street Café is one of those spots that leaves a lasting impression. We can’t wait to come back!
Vine Street Cafe is a calm and quiet restaurant with delicious food and polite, friendly staff — truly worthy of appreciation. Prices could be a bit more reasonable, but it’s definitely worth trying.
Cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating in shelter island. The service was fantastic. You’re served bread that’s hot piping and delicious at the start. The rest of the meal was so so, standard American restaurant fare. Got the miso salmon, felt like a dish I could make at home. Still a great vibe and perfect for a summer night dinner. The sticky toffee pudding was yum but would probably get a different flavor of ice cream to go with it next time
